Eustis Florida Real Estate
Eustis was not the original name of this Lake County city, located on the eastern shore of Lake Eustis. First it was Highlands, then Pendryville, Lake Eustis, and finally in 1881 the lake was dropped and the town became known as Eustis. The town was named after the famed General Abraham Eustis. The forces of General Eustis were prominent in the Seminole Indian wars of the 1820's, and had skirmishes with the Indians near the present day community of Tavares.
In 1876 A. S. Pendry homesteaded land and set out a citrus grove. The economy of Eustis was largely dependent on agriculture growing melons, vegetables, and citrus. The economy of Eustis remained largely unchanged until the freezes of the mid 1980's.
The early settlers of Eustis used Lake Eustis and the surrounding lakes of Dora, Harris and Griffen to transport their agricultural products to market. Today the lakes provide recreation for many different recreational sports, including sailing, fishing, boating, and water skiing are just a few of the activities enjoyed by today's residents and tourist.
A city of over seventeen thousand, Eustis residents enjoy a rural lifestyle with big city amenities, with shopping, restrauants, and entertainment. Located approxmiately in the center of the state, it is a short drive to either coast, with the resorts of Orlando within an hour drive.
Eustis is known as the "City of Bright Tomorrows".
